Look at babies- they come into the world with nothing and expect very little once they arrive- they are born minimalists! Here’s why…

They need very little to make them happy

They need very little to make them happy

They just need the basics to survive- Love, sleep, warmth, food and a clean nappy. As long as they have all these things, they are contented little beings. We should take a leaf from their book.

They play with the same few toys- It doesn’t matter how many toys you buy your baby or get gifted; they still gravitate towards their favourites. Even though they can’t speak, they are already communicating to you what you can declutter and what you can’t!

They have their own uniform- Just like many minimalists- babies wear the same things over and over. Sleepsuits- are a baby’s capsule wardrobe because they are comfortable and easy. Little ones have a personal style from being just days old and it works for them and their lifestyle.

They respond better to experiences than things- Ever compared how your baby responds to you playing with them to giving them a toy and leaving them to play with it alone? They are far more entertained when you’re involved in the process. They thrive on company and interaction.

They have minimal bedding- Although it’s from a safety perspective, they are comfortable with a good mattress and a soft blanket to get all the rest they need.

They choose simplicity- Babies will always feel drawn towards toys that are both simple and have stood the test of time. Rattles, balls and teddy bears are great examples of toys that do very little but bring huge amounts of joy all the same. There is no need for complicated toys in a baby’s world.

They savour each moment- Your baby loves to look deep into your eyes while you feed them, snuggles in tight to listen to your heartbeat and feels every new thing thoroughly with their hands. They live in the moment and live each day to the fullest.
