We’ve become a little addicted to Bridgerton recently; a Netflix show based on Julia Quinn's novels set within Regency era London's high society; and looking at Instagram and TikTok lately, it seems like we’re not the only ones. Everyone’s trying to adopt elements of the Bridgerton look and we’re here for it. Here are the top trends that have captured the attention of the world’s fashionistas.

High-waist chemise-style dresses with low necklines and cap sleeves

First of all, we’re going casual Regency, not towering wigs and endless ruffles Regency. Think Jane Austen vibes; poetic chic. This dress description sounds oddly specific but I’ll bet you know exactly what I’m talking about. Is there a name for these type of dresses? Anyway, they are THE Bridgerton staple look. Lower-waist dresses are better for larger busts, but generally this is one of the most flattering looks for most people. Whether you opt for a mini version or the classic maxi, this is the frock we’re looking forward to seeing everywhere this Summer.

Lace gloves

Nothing makes a person move more gracefully than delicate lace gloves. They definitely complete the look even if the idea of wearing indoor gloves makes you feel eccentric. Who cares? Gloves are cool. Plus you can always opt for fingerless for convenience and still look like an aristocratic poet.

Curly up-dos

Dig out those curlers and get working on your best ringlets because wedding hair is now in. Piling your hair on top of your head gives immediate gracefulness, but let a few strands go free for a more casual, day style.

Tiaras

Ever lament not having an excuse to wear a tiara? If you said “No”, you’re definitely lying. There’s no reason you can’t secure a modest bit of bling into that curly up-do; certainly for a nighttime look, but if you’re brave you can sparkle in the sun too.

Spencer jackets

Because we’re not quite at Summer yet, it’s best to team up that thin chemise dress with an elegant Spencer jacket in velvet or velveteen. A Spencer jacket is kind of a more substantial bolero but with long sleeves. Or it can be just a slightly cropped jacket with a formal cut; suitable for both men and women. Opt for black or dark colours, or deep jewel tones; whatever goes best with the rest of your look.

Pastels and florals

While bright colours may be summery, whites, creams, and pale pinks, blues and green are the order of the day. They create an effortlessly pretty effect and are suitable for both night and day. Equally, florals are much maligned as granny patterns, but they can turn an outfit from plain to princess in just a few petals. It’s about getting the print just right.

Kitten heels

Sky-high stilettos are not the way of the contemporary-Regency look. Instead, choose demure kitten heels that you can actually walk in. Hell, if you can still play croquet then all the better. Perfection is when they have pointed toes, NOT peep-toe, with a jewelled finish. Ballet-style slippers are an excellent alternative for when kitten heels are far from appropriate.
