After months of lockdown, many of us have embraced that minimal effort look, but since we’ve been back to our usual day-to-day life, it’s been so hard to get back into the habit of putting ourselves together.

Some of us, meanwhile, have never had the time or the energy to make much of an effort, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look like we’ve spent hours getting ready with just a few easy tricks…

1. Get the haircut right

Throwing your hair in a messy bun can look chic, but not if it’s every single day. The best thing to do when you rarely have time to style your hair is to get a haircut that barely needs styling. Short dos are perfect for a low maintenance person as curly hair will maintain volume and straight hair can easily be lifted with a quick slick of product. Frizz is less likely to happen for shorter hair and brushing isn’t necessary.

If you are low maintenance, resist the temptation to dye your hair, because you’re unlikely to get chance to fix it once your roots come through. Stay natural with colour, embrace your natural hair texture and ask your hairdresser what the best low maintenance styles are for your hair type.

2. Statement shoes

Comfy shoes are a must, but that doesn’t mean you can live in your old trainers or misshapen Uggs. Consider some colourful alternatives that are hard-wearing, smart and easy to clean. You want to avoid light colours that show marks and scuffs, and move away from fabric and suede materials that can’t be instantly wiped clean. Doc Martens and Chelsea boots are great for Winter and Autumn months, while for Spring and Summer you can invest in a chic pair of ballet flats or mules.

3. Accessorise

No matter what the outfit, if you throw in a bit of jewellery, a stylish belt, a silk scarf or a well chosen handbag, you look like you’ve made more of an effort. You can opt for that stretchy, athflow, office-casual look and get away with it with a bit of careful accessorising and it takes no time at all.

4. Skincare routine

Skincare can be as simple as cleansing and moisturising, and that takes less time than brushing your teeth. If you have a skin condition, throw in a treatment, and always make sure to add a sun screen in a morning. Keeping up with a skincare routine will keep you looking radiant without needing to cake on the make-up; in fact, a little mascara, a lip stain and a cheek tint will be all you need for a full face with the right skincare.

5. Perfume

Investing in a statement perfume is one of the best things you can do to make you come across as more put together than you feel. If you smell expensive, that will immediately raise your profile and will give you an illusion of cleanliness even if you haven’t washed your hair for three days. You should still probably shower every day though (sorry about it).
