Lipstick is the way forward now

The current economic climate is heralding a new dawn for lipsticks with the return of old-school glamour and a more refined, classic look. Leading this trend are sophisticated screen sirens including Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Claire Danes, who have been seen on the red carpet looking perfectly groomed with immaculate matte lips.

Shiny glossies are taking a back seat in favour of a more grown up intense lipstick effect. Make no mistake that lipstick is back and is here to stay, after all every girl needs a little lip luxury.

Max Factor make-up artist Pat McGrath says, "This is no time for no make-up. It’s a time for playfulness and drama."

The trick behind a dramatic lipstick is to know what colour, if any, you should use on other parts of your face. A light pink will work well with darker colours so wear it with smokey eyes. If you're going for a warmer pink though use bronze colours on your eyes.

Natural looking nude lips are big news this summer, complement them with a girly pink colour on your eyes.

Finally, if you go for dramatic looking red lips keep your eye colour natural but use lashings of mascara for a classic 1920s sexy siren look.
