Katy Perry At The Smurf Premiere Rocking Her Decals!

This year was the year for fabulous nails, they came in every size, shade and shape and we loved them all! Here are a few of our favourites, enjoy…

Ombre

The fading fingertips trend was first shown off by Lauren Conrad when she sported a blue set earlier this year. Since they’ve become a phenomenon and have been seen on fingertips all over the globe. It’s simple, start with the darkest shade on your thumb and work along the fingers, putting a slightly lighter shade on each nail. Tada!

Half-moon Manicure

This trend saw the reversal of the traditional French manicure. Fergie rocked a black to beige look and Dita Von Teese even released her own line of press-on styles. To achieve the look just neatly paint a half moon at the base of your nail and then paint the rest of the nail with a contrasting colour.

Decals

Katy Perry was a big lover of this trend in 2011. She plastered everyone over her nails, from Smurfs to Umpa Lumpas. Rapper Eve went so far as to have President Obama on her nails! You can pick up some great transfers from most beauty shops so get searching!

Rainbow

Possibly the most fun trend of this year, and it’s so versatile. Caggie Dunlop is a big fan of this trend, as is Jessie J and The Saturday’s Rochelle. It’s also the easiest trend to imitate, just paint every nail a different colour!

Pointy

These nails are amazing but unfortunately highly impractical, imagine trying to pick up change with those bad boys? No chance. Lady Gaga has been a veteran to them and Rihanna has also been partical to them. If you can’t get the real deal a great way to mimic the look is to paint your nail a nude that suits your skin tone and then to paint the nail into a point with a colour of your choice.
