Do you know how long your make-up lasts?

Do you know how long your make-up lasts?

Beauty products don't just come in and out of style like fashion, they actually have an expiry date too.

A new poll found that women are unaware of the expiry dates of their products, risking putting-out-of-date stuff on their face and body.

A massive 78% said that they weren't aware beauty products have an expiry date.

Even those who are aware of their expiry dates still use products when they're past it. Basically because they don't want to waste it, not being able to afford to replace it and the fact that it's still usable after that date.

When asked which beauty products they were most likely to use past their sell by date, selecting more than one answer if necessary, the top 10 was as follows:

  1. Mascara
  2. Eye shadow
  3. Lipstick/lipgloss
  4. Moisturiser
  5. Body lotion
  6. Fake tan
  7. Face cream
  8. Foundation
  9. Eyeliner
  10. Blusher

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, had the following to say about the research:

“I was quite shocked to see how many women used beauty products way past their sell by date. Not only will products be less effective, but it could be quite detrimental to your health as expiry dates, especially on mascara and eyeliner, are put in place for a reason – to protect the user from infections down the road.

“Although it may be costly to throw out expired makeup, especially if they are designer brands, these expiry dates are put in place for a reason. If you have too many products that are close to expiring, then perhaps you should cut down on your beauty spending habits. At the end of the day, you are only throwing away your money!”
