Backstage at David Koma SS14

David Koma’s signature style – paying homage to the grace of the feminine form – carries over this season, but for SS14 we see a new length; below the knee pencil skirts as well as trousers with a hint of width.

He has woven samurai-inspired panels into a lady-like silhouette. The samurai influence comes in many forms; the use of leather panels woven together with laces provide movement to hard shapes, graphic lines slash across the body and hips. A scattering of pastel blue and pink are reminiscent of spring blossoms.

The hair is tight and sharp, pulled back but in sleek folded patterns, like a belt securing a kimono. Even the low pony itself has a wrap of hair covering the elastic to highlight but combine the two ponytails. Here we see poker straight hair and a lacquer-like sheen, with the ghd eclipse bringing an amazing, sleek, Japanese quality to any hair texture.

“The ghd eclipse styler is essential to create this look, ensuring poker straight hair with a lacquer-like sheen, and bringing that amazing, sleek, Japanese quality to any hair texture.” Kenna, ghd UK creative director.

GET THE LOOK

1. Spray wet hair with ghd style root lift spray and blow dry with the ghd air hairdryer. Useful tip: Brush hair through with the ghd oval dressing brush to achieve ultimate shine and smoothness.

Creating the sections:

2. To clip the first sections of hair away, use a ghd tail comb to guide hair an inch away from the temple at the hairline and then diagonally back above the ear. Do this on each side of the head.

3. Next in line is the top section, which continues from the top of the two side sections to create a square, which will end just before the crown. Again, clip this hair outof the way.

4. Bring the remaining hair back to the nape of the neck using the ghd oval dressing brush and tie with an elastic band. Useful tip: place your chin down as close to your chest as possible to ensure the pony tail is a low and as tight as it can be.

5. The two side sections created at the beginning will now need to be joined together, do this by brushing horizontally back and bring them together two inches above the pony tail. Tie with a thin elastic band.

6. The top section of hair can now be dressed back to join the pony at the nape. Use ghd style final fix hairspray to spray the underside of the section, which will help to stick it down and, once again, use a small elastic band to join.

7. Then, take a small piece of longer hair from the pony tail and wrap this around the base of the pony tail to cover the elastic, going both around and under the two pony tail sections to define it. Spray very close with ghd style final fix hairspray to secure in place.

8. Add contrast to the top and side sections of hair using the ghd style final shine spray. This will also create shine definition from the rest of the hair.

9. Finally, to complete this look, run the ghd eclipse styler over the pony tail to create ultimate shine and straightness.
