Glitter nails are still on-trend for the season ahead

Glitter nails are still on-trend for the season ahead

With hundreds of nail varnishes on the market, choosing the right colour can be daunting. To make things easier, here are five nail trends that have hit the runway ready for Spring 2013.

Pale

When you think of Spring, bright, vibrant colours often come to mind, but not this season. Quite the opposite actually, with a main nail trend at this year’s Fashion Week being nude nails. Matching your nail colour closely to your skin tone is a great way to elongate your fingers. Designers such as Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta saw their models sporting white and cream varnishes.

Ombre

The 2012 hair style has now been recycled ready for this year’s nail trend. It can be a challenge to achieve that gradual rather than blocked effect, so for a quick and simple way to nail that Ombre look try the following steps. Apply a base coat of your lighter varnish and then add a small amount of your contrasting colour to a makeup sponge. Once your base colour is dry, dab your second colour onto the top half of your nail to create a subtle blend between the two.

Metallics and glitter

Using gold and silver creates a touch of luxury and glamour but can sometimes be a bold statement, especially with the use of glitter. For a more subtle version, that still creates the overall effect, choose a glitter varnish and paint the tips of your nails or try using your brush to experiment with designs and patterns.

Two-tone

This trend requires a creative touch, designing a simple but effective nail. You can choose two contrasting colours or use your natural nail as the base colour. Stripes are a common pattern to create a two-tone effect, whether you choose to paint a diagonal line across your nail or a vertical stripe down the centre. You can add a twist to the traditional French manicure by using a brighter colour on your tips as an alternative to white.

Texture

Embellishing your nails is a great way to instantly make them stand out, but if you don’t have a steady hand there are lots of textured varnishes on the market this season to help you out. Get into the Easter spirit this month by trying Illamasqua’s range of speckled nail varnishes. The polish comes in five pastel colours which dry with little black dots resembling a speckled egg.

Try out these new trends to make sure your nails are tip top for this Spring.
