A-List diamonds: Celebrity Engagement Rings

New research compiled by the new Westfield London Shopping Centre shows some of the favourite diamond cuts favoured by A-Listers. With everyone from Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor to Victoria Beckham and Catherine Zeta Jones having sported one of these beauties, if you've found your fella, the only thing missing is the money.

So if you're hinting at your man to pop the question or helping a friend's other half find her the perfect ring, take a little look at these beauties to help you think outside the box.

One of the most under-rated cut of diamond is the Marquise shape as seen on Catherine Zeta Jones' ring finger.

Designed by Fred Leighton, Her £1.25 million, 10 carat ring was presented to her by hubby Michael Douglas after just 10 months of dating. Catherine has found it a sign of fate and true love that she had borrowed the exact same ring for past events before she was presented with it on bended knee. If you needed any more proof that this ring is pure style know Fashion Week queen Victoria Beckham also wears one!

The emerald cut remains just as popular today as it was decades ago. Grace Kelly was presented with a 12 carat ring with baguette diamonds on either side by the Prince of Monaco in 1955. This only added to her Hollywood appeal as she was able to show off her statement ring at every available moment.

Other celebrities with an emerald cut ring include Elizabeth Taylor almost weighing a whopping 30 carats and new mum Mariah Carey, who was given an impressive one-of-a-kind £1.63m pink diamond ring from hubby Nick Cannon over four years ago. It has 58 pink diamonds and two half moon-cut diamonds surround a 10 carat centre diamond. Impressive.

If you're into more antique looking jewellery then an Asscher cut diamond ring much like Gwyneth Paltrow or Reese Witherspoon is the way to go. The square cut diamond looks beautiful set on a simple band or with a more art deco setting much like Reese's first ring from Ryan Philippe.

The blue sapphire and diamond engagement ring now seen on the finger of style icon Kate Middleton first became famous back in the 80s when the unconvential Diana Princess of Wales first wore it. Diana even broke tradition by picking a widely accessible engagement ring from Gerrard Jewellers for £28,000 as opposed to a one-of-a-kind as expected. Sapphires have become more and more popular since the Duchess of Cambridge has been seen with the priceless family ring William chose to give his wife so as to keep his late mother with them on their special day.

Even J-Lo has sported a coloured stone. Her pink diamond engagement ring to actor Ben Affleck was an impressive 6.5 carats, but as the wedding never went ahead the ring was returned to jeweller Harry Winston and sold on for an undisclosed price. Though most women aren't a fan of receiving second hand engagement rings, we think we'd make the exception for such a Hollywood heavy weight former couple, let's just hope that it was the ring that was bad luck!

For those who love their bling, the canary cut diamond is the one for them. When Seal was hunting for the perfect ring for his supermodel wife Heidi Klum he chose a Lorraine Schwartz 10 carat diamond set in yellow gold. As if this wasn't enough ice for one proposal, he then flew his future missus to a glacier to pop the question inside an igloo.
