Fifties fashion will get a cheer from the Front Row apparently

Gok Wan says it's his favourite and this season designers have been influenced by it greatly, so it's no wonder that fifties fashion has come out on top.

It was the glamour age of Hollywood and now the fifties has been voted as the decade where women dress most stylishly – according to a new poll.

The research, conducted by leading online casino RoxyPalace.com, asked 1000 of its male members in which decade of the last 60 years women appeared the most attractive.

Participants were shown images of traditional trends during the decades, scoring them in the order they found most stylist and attractive.

Polling just under a third of the vote, the 1950s were the gent’s clear favourite.

The noughties came second scoring almost a quarter of the vote with the swinging 60s and stylish 70s polling third and fourth place, scoring 16 per cent and 12 per cent respectively.

The mullet loving 1980s were revealed to be the decade women presented themselves in the least attractive manner, scoring just eight per cent of the vote. The chavtastic 90s only marginally missed out on the bottom spot by one per cent.

A spokesperson from RoxyPalace.com said the findings show many men enjoyed a more sophisticated, understated look.

He said: “The fifties were a marvellous age for glamour and style. When you think of the 50s you think of Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor and Ingrid Bergman.

“It was an age when women actually looked like women; there was none of the fake tan and false eyelash bravado which you see today. In the 50s make-up was there to complement a woman’s features and not to be caked on at will.

“It is a real shock to see the naughties ranked so highly, personally it seems a miracle that ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ generation with its love of garish fake tan, huge eye-lashes and the outrageous vajazzles, got 23 per cent.

“The 80s coming bottom of the pile is no surprise. It was the decade which gave us the mullet, leg warmers and shoulder pads all of which live long in the memory but for the wrong reasons.”

One male respondent who wished to remain anonymous commented: “Of course, women are still attractive today, however nothing is left to the imagination.”
