A man who was allegedly verbally abused by John Galliano has defended the disgraced designer, insisting he doesn't deserve to have his career "destroyed" over the incident.

Galliano was dismissed as creative director for couture house Christian Dior following allegations he hurled anti-Semitic abuse at two strangers during a night out in Paris, France last month (Feb11).

But Philippe Virgitti, who filed a police complaint along with pal Geraldine Bloch, has dismissed the matter as a "simple bar dispute" which shouldn't impair the couturier's career.

Virgitti says, "For me it was a simple bar dispute. John Galliano does not deserve this. I do not want him to be destroyed like this.

"I would like Mr Galliano to benefit from this unhappy story by drinking a little less and getting back to making the dresses and shows that he did so well."

Galliano, who has also allegedly been captured in video footage praising Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, is reportedly facing prosecution for making racist insults.

He has also filed a countercomplaint against Virgitti and Bloch, alleging assault and verbal abuse.
