Sir Philip Green awarded as International Retailer of the Year

Sir Philip Green has been awarded International Retailer of the Year in New York.

The Arcadia chairman picked up the award last night at the US National Retail Federation.

As part of the Arcadia Group, Green owns BHS, Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Wallis, Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Evans. Topshop is the only one to have opened in America as of yet.

In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, which was conducted whilst the entrepreneur was in Barbados, Green said: “I am doing the same jobs I was doing 25 years ago. I am into things where I think I can help, add value, teach people, show them what I’ve learned. I don’t want to be an absent landlord. That’s not my style.

“Seven am is the first call to the office, dealing with the emails, faxes and texts that have come in overnight. And I’ve already gone over the sales figures and sock positions of the store.” He continued.

The company is worth $4.28 billion and has 2,778 stores with over 45,000 employees.

Sir Philip plans to expand the business even further by opening a further five stores in America in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and a second Manhattan store. The Topshop franchise is planning to move into Rio de Janeiro and Cairo and maybe then onto Canada and Australia.
