The 34-year-old model-turned-fashion designer thinks that every woman's clothing collection should have a selection of staple items which act as the "architecture for the house you're building", and her must-have garments include denim, a blazer and "iconic trainers".

In an interview with Vogue Australia, she said: "I think it's about having enough staple items to act as the pillars or the architecture for the house you're building. For the clothes, that would be the perfect denim, a great blazer, a really comfy sweater, maybe a plain white t-shirt, and some iconic sneakers. Then around that, you can incorporate like a Maryam Nassir Zadeh tiny handbag, or like a lime green see-through dress or some cycling shorts, or whatever! So you'll have enough items to counter-balance the weirdness."

Alexa thinks individualism is key in refining your personal style and before picking the perfect outfit it's important to think about "how you want to feel that day".

She said: "I think my whole opinion on personal style and getting dressed is that its personal experience, so I've never been someone who wants to give advice because I don't think it should be prescriptive. I think people should find their own way, celebrate who they are and individualism is key!

"Get in the shower, have a think about how you want to feel that day and dress for the character you're going to play.

"If you're like I want to feel sexy and get laid then put on the suspenders and hope for the best, but if you're like, I really need to be the boss today then I suppose it's going to be a roll-neck jumper and a heel!"
