Milan Fashion Week kicked off on Wednesday (18.09.13) with Gucci showcasing its spring/summer 2014 collection.

Following the success of New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week over the last two weeks, attention has now turned to the Italian equivalent as Gucci's creative director Frida Giannini unveiled her bold new designs.

The Italian brand's latest collection boasted daring sheer fabrics, thigh-high splits, plunging necklines and bare backs.

Despite being targeted for warm weather, the outfits shared a dark palette with bursts of bright colours and shiny gold embroidery adding a summery feel.

In the show's liner notes, Frida admitted she sought inspiration for the designs in an unusual place - looking to figure-hugging women's sportswear.

She wrote that active wear helped her create her collection for the "seductive and sensual woman".

Frida's inspiration was clearly evident on the runway, with models strutting their stuff in maxi T-shirts, bomber jackets and sweatpants.

The new collection of luxurious Gucci bags, meanwhile, came in different styles - ranging from a maxi clutch to a small shoulder bag - and colours and materials such as python snakeskin and suede.

The fashion show attracted a host of big names including Blake Lively, Salma Hayek and Vogue US editor Anna Wintour.

Other designers who showed at Milan Fashion Week on Wednesday included Alberta Ferretti and Dsquared2.
