London Fashion Week kicks off today (13.09.13).

The five-day event is expected to boost the British economy by £100million as industry insiders flock to the capital to watch the latest spring/summer 2014 collections go down the runway.

The next five days will see 58 of the UK's biggest names like Burberry, Christopher Kane and Tom Ford showcase their new lines, as well as JW Anderson, Mary Katrantzou and Jonathan Saunders.

Natalie Massenet, the British Fashion Council's chairman, told Vogue.co.uk: "London is always the most packed schedule - you can't miss anything because our designers are unpredictable."

LFW has been gaining in international recognition in recent years, becoming just as high profile as its counterparts in Milan, Paris and New York.

The capital's hectic schedule features some new additions this year, with shoe maven Manolo Blahnik presenting a film of his latest collection, as well as runway debuts from AllSaints and Smythson. This season also sees Emma Hill's final collection for Mulberry.

Helen David, head of womenswear at Harrods, said: "It's an exciting time for London with a host of established brands such as Tom Ford and Burberry firmly on the calendar alongside new talent and labels which are growing.

"The city's reputation for innovative and eclectic designs continues to be cemented."
