Diane von Furstenberg AW09

Diane von Furstenberg AW09

Welcome to our second fashion face-off here at FemaleFirst, where we pit two big designer names against each other, to see who comes out on top in the fashion stakes.

This week we're looking at the legendary Diane von Furstenberg and British favourite and H&M designer extrordinaire, Matthew Williamson to see who will take away the style crown.

Although on paper these two are pretty unlike each other, their AW09 collections were pretty similar and used a lot of the same influences, so lets begin with Diane von Furstenberg's fashion credentials.

We're huge fans of her and her work, and absolutely adored her AW09 range in New York, as she showed a 'real girl' collection, with plenty of animal print, metallic leggings and fierce headwear.

After her Spring collection, which was arguably one of the most beautiful ethereal collections we've ever seen, we had our doubts about her matching it for autumn, but thankfully she more than pulled it off.

Expertly tailored, von Fursetnberg's collection was a total triumph and we simply loved the velvety leopard print maxi dress, teamed with a crown of sewn together pompoms, which fitted snuggly as a hat.

Matthew Williamson's collection for AW09 was also pretty amazing, as he sampled a more polished 'boho' look, that still retained his unique flair but updated it a bit to show his progression in the fashion world.

A Native and American Indian theme was apparent, with zig zag coats and jumpers dominating the runway, which were not entirely dissimilar to what was shown at DvF.

Each designer has their own unique flair, but their similar creative processes and amazing designs will always draw comparisons, so what's the verdict for this week?

Well, we have to give it to Matthew Williamson, purely because of the amount of coverage he has been getting for his fabulous H&M collection, which coincidentally sold out within the first few hours of being on sale. What a star!
