I am a true believer in the power of staying motivated, wherever you are in life. We all have a drive within us, pushing us forwards, and motivation is the key to fuelling that. It might be a promotion, a big life goal or weight loss. You name it - most things in life require a lot of motivation. I get it, modern life is busy and stressful and it can feel like you have a million things going on at once, not to mention all those times when you are thrown a curveball and you just feel like giving up. I understand that feeling and I’ve been there. But if I’ve learnt anything from life and my business journey with my company B by Nicki, it’s that you can’t give up. That’s why I wanted to share a few tips on how to stay motivated in order to get the most from your life so you can smash those all-important dreams and goals.

Keep Hold Of The Fire In Your Belly

We’ve all got a passion inside us. Something we are striving towards and aiming for. That thing that gets us out of bed in the morning when the first alarm goes off and makes us want to just go for it. Sometimes that fire can dim slightly because we feel like it’s just not happening. But when we hold on to that feeling and fuel it by focusing on the goal at the end, when we truly believe, and don’t give up, we can achieve things we never thought possible. It may not happen overnight, but I guarantee that the fire will be the thing that makes it happen.

Goals Increase Positivity

Positivity has a huge impact on motivation. The moment those negative thoughts creep in, is the moment you start to question why you’re doing what you’re doing. So even when it can feel like there are a million reasons not to, you have to focus on the end goal. Give yourself a target to reach and set mini goals along the way too. If it’s weight loss, set the target for an event like a holiday or a wedding. That gives you a clear focus and timeframe to work towards. If you just say, ‘New Year, new me,’ and decide to go to the gym you will end up giving up a few weeks later, because you’re not working towards anything.

Never Stop Learning

Being curious and discovering new things is important for staying motivated. Whether it’s books, podcasts or morning routines, looking for that daily dose of inspiration can really fuel your drive. It could be someone who’s been on the same journey as you, or someone you aspire to be, or something as simple as a new recipe. Take me for example; I love to read autobiographies by inspiring people. I’ve just finished Ant Middleton’s book First Man In. It’s completely unrelated to my life but he helps me to feel inspired. His message resonates with me. There’s also the Fearne Cotton Happy Place podcast. Because the moment it finishes I just feel in a better mood, a better place, and I’m ready to smash through my day.

Self-Care Is Key

Modern life is busy and stressful so we have to take time for ourselves. We have to reap the rewards of what we do, or we’ll just burn out. And that’s a sure fire way to lose motivation. It doesn’t always have to be a massive holiday either. It could be as simple as a walk in the fresh air, or a coffee with friends, or a trip to the spa, but taking time out and recharging those batteries is at the heart of staying motivated. Not to mention the fact that all those moments of self-care are ways to make the most of your life, right?

No Such Thing As Failure

This point links to staying positive, but it’s bigger than that. And that’s why I left it until the end. It’s something that I feel so passionately about. It’s true that everything doesn’t always go to plan and there are things we start to think we’ve failed at. But don’t allow it to stop you or hold you back. Every failure is an opportunity to learn and grow. So always look for the positives and come back stronger. Whatever happens there will be positives and learnings, which you can use to fuel that motivation to get it right next time. Guaranteed.

So there you have my top tips for staying motivated and making the most of your life. I know that motivation is a super personal thing, and I’m always looking for new ways to boost mine (you should never stop learning, right?) so if there’s anything you do, or anything you listen to, let me know in the comments, as I’d love to hear them.
