UK car buyers are following in the fashionable footsteps of Salma Hayek and Jake Gyllenhaal, as they seek to replace their gas-guzzlers with green machines.

This is according to the nationwide classified cars website fish4cars, which reported that out of over seven million searches in the last quarter of 2007, 74% of them were for environmentally friendly vehicles.

The report into the popularity of environmentally friendly cars revealed the top five most searched for green motors. Topping the list was the Toyota Yaris, a favourite amongst fish4cars customers, followed by the Seat Ibiza, Smart Cars, BMW 1 series and the BMW X3.

The search statistics show that British drivers are embracing the new, greener models that are now available. By offering green cars on the website fish4cars is helping customers who are looking to make a commitment to environmental issues by changing their mode of transport.

The availability of green cars on the site, alongside the trend for drivers to choose more environmentally friendly vehicles, has helped to increase the number of visitors to the website throughout 2007.

This is also good news for UK motorists as the pressure to go green is on us all. So whist this may simply be a customer looking for the option, hopefully it will mean the sale of ‘greener’ cars will start to increase.
