Parents who’ll be driving their kids around this half term will be shocked to learn that new research has revealed that a staggering 1 in 2 parents have swerved, braked suddenly or missed a turning due to distractions from children in the car.

Worryingly, just under 3% have either hit a pedestrian, a car or swerved onto the other side of the road to avoid a collision.

With over 66% of parents admitting that their children have caused them to take their eyes off the road, and with one in two owning up to the fact that they’ve had to turn around to attend to children whilst on the move, it seems that it is kids that drive us to distraction.

53% of parents listed screaming, arguing or demanding an item as their top distractions. Worse still, 26% have taken their hands off the wheel to retrieve a toy, item of food or dummy and 10% have even let their child take the steering wheel while sat on their lap!

Why don’t parents from day one, simply teach their children to keep quite in the car and blatantly refuse to continue driving if the children do start to create? If they ban all toys, food and any other objects that might need retrieving, this would eliminate distraction.

Who is in control of the car here?
