Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Ok when Twilight was released back in 2008 everyone was expecting a hit but no one, the actors in particular, we ready for the mass hysteria that followed.

While a universal gross of just over $383 million is not spectacular, particularly when it's compared to The Dark Knight gross of over $1 billion; the movie was the biggest grossing movie of 2008, the stars were thrust into the limelight.

Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are Hollywood's latest hottest things, gracing hottie charts and every young girl's bedroom wall.

But the excitement surrounding the big screen adaptations of Stephenie Meyer's novels went up a notch at the end of last year when New Moon hit the big screen.

Yes Twilight fever swept the globe as the movie went on to be the biggest pre-releas movie of all time, surpassing Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and went on to be on of the biggest grossing movies of 2009.

Twihards flocked to cinemas all over the globe and the movie took over $709 at the global box office, the thirty seventh biggest movie of all time.

But having only just caught our breath from the frenzy that surrounded the release, were you on Team Edward or Team Jacob? And Kristen Stewart going on to win an Orange Rising Star Bafta Awards the star's feet have barely touched the ground, we are going through it all again.

Yes just eight months after the release of New Moon Edward, Bella, Jacob and co are back with Eclipse, the third movie in the series.

As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger.

In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob - knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf.

With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse set a new record for the biggest midnight opening in US and Canadian history as it took $30 million, a record which was previously held by New Moon at $26.3 million.

The film has been on release for seven days around the globe and has already taken over $291 million worldwide and looks set to be one of the biggest grossing movies of the year.

The books have sold over 14 million copies worldwide and have been named the 'next best series since Harry Potter'. The best-selling book and film adaptation of the novel are both from the mind of author, Stephenie Meyer, who says the idea for the story came to her in a dream.

And the excitement surrounding these movies looks set to continue as breaking Dawn, the chunkiest novel in the series, has been given the green light, and will be split into two movies. Director Bill Condon is on board to helm the project and part one is expected to reach cinemas in November 2011.

Alice In Wonderland is the biggest grossing movie of 2010 so far breaking through the $1 billion barrier, I know Avatar's success was huge at the beginning of the year but it was technically released in 2009, could Eclipse join the elite five movies to break $1 billion?

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is released 9th July
