The Young Victoria

The Young Victoria

It was her role in The Devil Wears Prada that put her on everyone's movie radar but it her performance as Queen Victoria in The Young Victoria that looks set to cement Emily Blunt as one of the best young actresses around.

Twenty six year old Emily Blunt made her acting debut in the theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in 2000 in musical Bliss. She went on to work in the National Theatre before moving into television.

Roles in Boudica and Henry VIII led to her first movie role in My Summer of Love in 2004. The British film was based on the novel by Helen Cross and followed the relationship between two women from different backgrounds and classes.

For her performance as Tamsin she won the Evening Standard British Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer Award and went on to cement this with her Golden Globe winning performance in Gideon's Daughter with Bill Nighy.

But it was her performance in comedy The Devil Wears Prada, alongside Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, that shot her to fame and the attention of Hollywood.

The movie was a loose adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel and follows Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she lands a job as co-assistant at a fashion magazine with demanding editor Miranda Priestly (Streep)

Blunt took on the role of Emily Charlton, Miranda's senior assistant. The film was a commercial and box office success and Blunt was nominated for another Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actress.

Her role in Devil Wears Prada saw her career soar and The Jane Austen Book Club, Dan In Real Life and Charlie Wilson's War followed.

But 2009 looks set to be the actresses biggest year to date as she land her first major lead role in The Young Victoria. Blunt takes on the role of Victoria in a film that looks at the early years of her reign and her relationship with Prince Albert.

But there's a change of pace next for the actress as she stars alongside Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro in The Wolf Man, a remake of the 1941 classic. She will then reunite with Bill Nighy for Wild Target.

While all these movie are in post-production she has a string of movies that are yet to be filmed and the next couple of years look set to be very busy for the young actress.

Gulliver's Travels is just one of the films that she is about to go off and film and she is currently linked with a possible role in the second Iron Man movie.

The Young Victoria is released 6th March
