We may have a whole host of Oscar type movies coming our way in the new year but John carter looks set to be one of the early blockbusterish movie that we can look forward to.
The movie is inspired by the Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Barsoom series and sees Taylor Kitsch take over the title role - this is the biggest role of Kitsch‘s career to date.
Andrew Stanton is in the director’s chair as he leaves animation behind to make his live action feature film debut.
Yes Stanton has been a directing giant at Pixar with the likes of Wall E and Finding Nemo under his belt in recent years - but this is an all new challenge for the filmmaker.
It may be his live action debut but he has not struggled to get big named stars on the cast list as Mark Strong, Willem Dafoe, Dominic West, Ciaran Hinds and James Purefoy are all set to feature.
The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins).
In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
Having seen an earlier trailer for the movie John Carter does have the potential to be an exciting adventure movie - plus I am excited to see Kitsch lead his first blockbuster movie/
Kitsch is quite an exciting actor who has already starred in the likes of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Bang Bang Club, two performances that couldn’t be more different from each other.
But John Carter has the potential send his star rocketing skyward.
John Carter is released 9th March
