Jude Law as Dr Watson

Jude Law as Dr Watson

The lovely Jude Law is back on the big screen this week as he reprises the role of Dr Watson in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

It has been two years since he first took on the role and now he reunites with Robert Downey Jr and filmmaker Guy Ritchie for a second bite at the cherry.

But it has already been a very successful year for the actor as he turned in a great performance in Contagion, which was directed by Steven Soderbergh, before taking a time but vital role in Martin Scorsese's Hugo.

Both movie enjoyed critical and box office success - and it looks like Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is set to do the same.

So what is coming up for Law over the next twelve months?

Well the British actor has plenty in the pipeline and firstly we will be seeing him in 360, a movie that opened the BFI London Film Festival earlier this year.

Directed by Fernando Meirelles the movie sees Law team up with Anthony Hopkins and Rachel Weisz.

Written by written by Peter Morgan, who penned The Queen, the movie follows the interconnected love lives of people in a number of cities around the world, including Paris, London and Phoenix.

He is set to tackle animation in 2012 as he has lent his voice to Rise of the Guardians, which is directed by Peter Ramsey and William Joyce.

And as we have come to expect from animation movies he is not the only big name on the cast list as Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin and Chris Pine will also voice characters.

Now we won't be seeing this movie until this time next year as it follows Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and the Sandman who come together to see off the Bogeyman - looks set to be the big family animation movie of next Christmas.

The actor is currently filming Anna Karenina, which is scheduled for an August release, and adaptation of the Leo Tolstoy novel.

The movie reunited director Joe Wright with Keira KNightley, who takes on the title role, while Law is set to play Alexei Karenin.

Wright has a habit of making sweeping, beautiful movies so this is one that everyone really should look out for.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is released 16th December
