Terminator Salvation

Terminator Salvation

The summer movie season is loved by some who can't get enough of the big budget blockbusters and the CGI driven film, on the other hand it's equally hated by others who hate the dependence these movies have on special effects.

So FemaleFirst takes a look at some of the movies that you should be watching this summer, and no it's not all about the blockbuster.

It's been six years since Terminator: Rise of the Machines hit our screen but the hit franchise is back, albeit without Schwarzenegger.

It seems Christian Bale has got the blockbuster bug, after the success of The Dark Knight last summer, as he takes on the role of John Connor.

Set in post-apocalyptic 2018 and John Connor is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators.

But the future that Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright, a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past.

As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

And despite the film having not even been released yet there are already of a sequel in the pipeline.

Terminator Salvation is released 5th June.

Ken Loach's Looking For Eric is one of the British movies that you should catch this summer, the film will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

Eric the postman is slipping through his own fingers...

His chaotic family, his wild stepsons, and the cement mixer in the front garden don’t help, but it is Eric’s own secret that drives him to the brink.

Can he face Lily, the woman he once loved?  Despite outrageous efforts and misplaced goodwill from his football fan mates, Eric continues to sink.

In desperate times it takes a spliff and a special friend to challenge Eric to journey into the most perilous territory of all - the past.

And footballing legend Eric Cantona returns to acting for Loach's latest movie.

Looking For Eric is released 12th June.

It's Japanese movie Blood: The Last Vampire next, a live action adaptation of the hit anime film.

On the surface, Saya is a stunning 16-year-old, but that youthful exterior hides the tormented soul of a 400-year-old "halfling."

Born to a human father and a vampire mother, she has for centuries been a loner obsessed with using her samurai skills to rid the world of vampires, all the while knowing that she herself can survive only on blood like those she hunts.

When she is sent onto an American military base in Tokyo by the clandestine organization she works for, Saya immediately senses that this may be her opportunity to finally destroy Onigen, the evil patriarch of all vampires.

Using her superhuman strength and her sword, she begins to rid the base of its evil infestation in a series of spectacular and elaborate showdowns.

Blood: The last Vampire is released 19th June.

Year One is the big comedy of the month as Jack Black teams up with the up and coming Michael Cera.

Back in the Year One AD, Zed (Jack Black) and Oh (Michael Cera), two unconventional cavemen, are banished from their tribe for eating from the Tree of Knowledge.

On the way they encounter a multitude of biblical characters from Adam (Harold Ramis) and Eve (Rhoda Griffis) to Abraham (Hank Azaria) and Cain (David Cross) - already bullying his ill-fated brother Abel (Paul Rudd).

But their journey takes a turn for the worse when they stumble upon a Roman settlement and end up getting enslaved.

The other big movie of note this month comes in the form of Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the sequel to the 2007 hit Transformers.

The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons, and has decided to return to Earth with force.
