Star Wars

Star Wars

1977 George Lucas brought his Star Trek universe to the big screen for the very first time, creating one of the biggest movie franchises of all time.

Fans fell in love with the characters and the movie's stars became household names practically overnight. But what happened to their careers after Star Wars? FemaleFirst finds out.

Harrison Ford - Han Solo

The role of Han Solo was to be Ford's big movie breakthrough and in the years since the movie franchise has become one of Hollywood's biggest actors.

Off the back of his Star Wars success came another franchise in the form of Indiana Jones, one of cinema's most iconic movie characters.

The eighties brought him roles such as Blade Runner, Witness and Frantic as well as Patriot Games and The Fugitive into the nineties.

He return to Indiana Jones in 2008 with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and will be back on the screen with Crossing Over.

Mark Hamill - Luke Skywalker

After the success of Star Wars Hamill tried to move away from similar roles appearing in  The Big Red One.

He moved away from movies and onto Broadway with performances in Amadeus and The Elephant Man. Into the nineties he juggled some movie work with TV appearances on 3rd Rock from the Sun and Just Shoot Me but he never repeated his Star Wars success.

Carrie Fisher - Princess Leia Organa

Much like Hamill actress Carrie Fisher struggled after the hype of Star Wars to forge a big acting career. She did appear in the likes of The Blues Brothers and The Man with One Red Shoe before moving into the theatre.

She also took up writing publishing her first novel Postcards from the Edge, which was made into a movie starring Meryl Streep.

Peter Mayhew - Chewbacca

Although we never get to see Peter's face in the movie he is the man behind character Chewbacca in the first three Star Wars movies.

The actor's career didn't really take off after Star Wars as he worked in commercials however he will return to the big screen with Antigravity later this year.

Like so many other David Prowse worked predominately in television since taking on the role of iconic villain Darth Vadar.

Before appearing in Star Trek Peter Cushing had a long movie and TV career and his role as Grand Moff Tarkin was just another string to the bow.
