The gangster movie is one of the most exciting genres that delivers get action as well as larger than life characters.
This week Lawless is the latest movie to be added to the genre as novel The Wettest County In The World is adapted for the big screen.
To celebrate the release of the movie we are going to take a look back at some of the classics in this genre - and boy have their been some great movies!!
Reservoir Dogs marks the directorial debut for flamboyant filmmaker Quentin Tarantino back in 1992.
The movie gave audiences a first look at the nonlinear storylines and stylistically excessive violence that he is now so famous.
Gangster movies are usually all about the action and the heists but Tarantino had a very different viewpoint as he never shows the diamond theft that this movie hinges on.
Instead this is very much a character based movie that tests the loyalty that lies between group of criminals and the decisions that got them to this place.
The movie bounces around between the different characters before and after the robbery but never during - and it's this nonlinear storyline that had a huge impact on the audience.
The writing is incredibly crisp and clean and produced line after line of great dialogue from a superb cast.
The likes of Harvey Keitel and Matthew Marsden were assembled for the movie and they all deliver great performances.
And it is Marsden who provides the most memorable scene of the movie - dancing around to Steeler's Wheel as he prepares to go in for the kill.
With this movie Tarantino revolutionised the gangster genre and delivered a hard hitting and violent film which is helped along by a tight plot and some great acting.
It still feels as fresh today as it did when it was first released and it stands head and shoulder over his most recent work.
Lawless is released 7th September.
