Jeff Bridges

Jeff Bridges

The Golden Globe winners should just have got over the celebratory hangovers in time to attend this weekend's Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Yes the awards season is picking up and the Guild gongs should give us further indication as to where the Oscars may go next month.

So here at FemaleFirst we put our money where our mouth is and predict who is going to win what.

Best Actor is going to be a very fiercely fought category this year with Jeff Bridges, George Clooney, Colin Firth, Morgan Freeman and Jeremy Renner all battling it our for award glory.

While I would absolutely love to see Renner pick up the award for his great performance in The Hurt Locker 2010 belongs to Jeff Bridges.

It high time that this great actor finally gets the award success that he deserves and it looks like that might just happen.

With the Golden Globe under his belt last weekend Bridges is my tip to continue this award run and take home Best Actor.

Best Actress has seen the same names nominated again and again in recent weeks for their great performances.

And with Sandra Bullock, Helen Mirren, Gabourey Sidibe, Carey Mulligan and Meryl Streep all getting nods there were no surprises.

Meryl Streep may have been the Oscar favourite back in September but since then Carey Mulligan has picked up left right and centre but lost out at the Golden Globes.

The award instead went to Sandra Bullock to give her her first major acting award for her role in The Blind Side.

She has given a powerful performance in The Blind Side and the Screen Actors Guild award should come her way.

Supporting Actor has been a very predictable category with Christoph Waltz picking up every award for his role in Inglourious Basterds.

Despite being joined by Matt Damon, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Plummer and Stanley Tucci FemaleFirst predict another win for Waltz.

Supporting Actress has seen both Anna Kendrick and Mo'Nique walk away with gongs at the various awards.

But at the Golden Globes last weekend it was Mo'Nique who took home the prize for her role as abusive mother in the hard hitting drama Precious.

And I doubt there will be few surprises tomorrow night as she should win for her performance.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards recognise acting talent so there is no Best Picture category however they do recognise Best Ensemble Cast.

An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Nine, Precious have all been nominated and I'm going to keep the faith and back my favourite movie from last year The Hurt Locker.

Finally three movies, in the form of Public Enemies, Star Trek and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen have been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture.

It would be great to see Public Enemies pick an award after Johnny Depp's central performance continues to be overlooked.

FemaleFirst Predictions:

- Best Actor: Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart
- Best Actress: Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side
- Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz for Inglourious Basterds
- Best Supporting Actress: Mo'Nique for Precious
- Best Ensemble Cast: The Hurt Locker
- Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture: Public Enemies.

The winners will be announced 23rd January.
