Shrek

Easter is one of those times of year, a bit like Christmas, where there is nothing better than curling up in front of the TV with your family and watching a movie together.

So here at FemaleFirst, with a little help from Oreo, we took a look at some of the nation's favourite family movies.

1. Shrek

2001 saw the friendly ogre hit the big screen for the very first time kicking off the very successful, if somewhat unexpected franchise. It was the first animation movie to win the Best Animated Feature Oscar. Three years they were back for Shrek 2, which is the highest grossing animation movie of all time. Shrek the Third hit screens in 2007 and a fourth movie is in the pipeline.

2. Harry Potter

To say that Harry Potter has been a success would be a little bit of an understatement as the book have propelled J K Rowling to fame and fortune. But the movies have done just the very same thing to the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.

I defy anyone to sit through Steven Spielberg's E.T. and not shed a tear. Released in 1982 the film, which starred Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore became the most financially successful movie ever released at that point.
