Spike Jonze is an American director and producer who has worked in film, TV and music videos throughout his career.

The director has Being John Malkovich and adaptation under his belt and returned to the big screen last year with Where The Wild Things Are, an adaptation of the Maurice Sendak novel.

The movie follows Max, a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, who creates his own world, a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler

To celebrate the 10th May Blu-ray and DVD release of Where the Wild Things Are we take a look at some interesting facts about director, Spike Jonze.

· Jonze considered directing Memoirs of a Geisha but was already in pre-production on Where the Wild Things Are.

· He is known as one of the most renowned directors for music videos.  Jonze has received numerous awards and recognition from MTV for his outstanding work.

· Spike has shot iconic videos for the Beasties and bands such as Pavement, Weezer, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, and Björk.

· Jonze is also credited as producer and co-creator of MTV television series Jackass and Jackass: The Movie, also directing some of the segments.

· He began work as a magazine editor and contributor before turning his interests to film.

· Jonze turned his hobbies such as skateboarding and BMX bicycle racing into lucrative magazines, sporting-goods companies, clothing manufacturers, and record labels.

· Jonze was also a co-founder and editor of Dirt magazine along with Mark Lewman and Andy Jenkins, as well as an editor for Grand Royal Magazine and senior photographer for Transworld Skateboarding.

· The Museum of Modern Art presented an exhibition in Jonzes honour - 'Spike Jonze: the First 80 Years'
