Texas Chainsaw 3D

Texas Chainsaw 3D

In Texas Chainsaw 3D we meet Heather, a young girl who discovers she has an unusual family history lurking in the depths of rural Texas.

With a group of friends in tow, Heather travels to Texas to try to find out something about her family with nothing but her inheritance to go on...or so everybody thinks.

Expect terror to ensue when she inevitably comes face-to-face with the serial killer we know as Leatherface!

So, to celebrate the return of Leatherface (hopefully) finally getting his comeuppance in Texas Chainsaw 3D (in cinemas across the UK from Wednesday 9th January), we have compiled a list of our top 5 feisty horror film heroines!

- Nancy Thompson - Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

The teens of Elm Street are being stalked in their dreams by creepy, five-clawed maniac, Freddy Kreuger. When classmate, Tina Gray, is murdered in her sleep by an assailant invisible to everyone else, Nancy begins to fear for her life.

A terrifying battle of wills ensues between Nancy and Freddy as one by one her friends are picked off, each one of them tortured and murdered in their sleep.

A true horror classic, Nightmare on Elm Street brings to life the boogie-man we all feared as children. Taunted in her dreams, Nancy must learn the truth behind Freddy’s own death if she is to finally defeat him.

Go to sleep at your own peril after watching this corker of a film. Just be sure to avoid those razor sharp claws won’t you!

- Sidney Prescott - Scream (1996)

Speaking of uncovering mysterious deaths, the one year anniversary of the murder of high school student, Sidney Prescott’s mother, is looming as news spreads through the town of Woodsboro that fellow student, Casey Becker (played by Drew Barrymore) has been brutally murdered.

The town is on red alert as a masked killer unleashes a brutal killing spree designed specifically to taunt Sidney (played by Neve Campbell).

Things come to a head when the identity of the killer is revealed and Sidney must fight to stay alive as the truth behind her mother’s murder is revealed. The only problem is, will she stay alive long enough to find out what it is?

- Laurie Strode - Halloween (1978)

1963, in the fictional town of Hoddenfield, Illinois, an unknown assailant
enters a house. Retrieving a butcher’s knife from the kitchen, the figure stalks upstairs and brutally murders a teenage girl. Once outside, the killer is revealed to be a young boy. (Creepy much?!)

Years later, the young boy has grown into a young man named Michael Myers, who, after escaping psychiatric care, begins to stalk teenager Laurie Strode.

Clad in overalls and a white Halloween mask, Mike embarks on a murderous rampage, each killing bringing him ever closer to Laurie. Things come to a head when Laurie finally comes face to face with her psychotic stalker.

Here is a heroine who truly kicks butt, going toe-to-toe with a maniac hell bent on killing her. Well, she is braver than us, that’s for sure!

- Alice Hardy - Friday The 13th (1980)

Here is another horror classic and Jason is another fantastic character of this genre (So scary, he doesn’t even need a surname!)

Twenty-two years after two camp counsellors were found murdered, Camp Crystal Lake is preparing to be reopened. The date is Friday the 13th June, 1980. (We can’t help but think Saturday the 14th would have saved a lot of bloodshed. Or is that wishful thinking on our part?)

As the camp counsellors gather for the grand reopening, an unseen figure unleashes a reign of terror upon them, murdering them one by one. Fleeing for her life, Alice Harding must find a way to escape the murderous antics of the unknown assailant.

Alone on camp grounds, it is up to Alice to fight back or risk the same fate as her friends. But with the killer’s identity unknown to her, who can she trust?

- Sally Hardesty - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

We couldn’t not mention the original Texan heroine, Sally Hardesty. On a road trip (we’re beginning to think that may this isn’t the most slasher-proof way of travelling!) with her brother and three friends, Sally picks up a hitchhiker who promptly attacks her brother.

Now stranded, the group go in search of gas and stumble upon a house. All hell (literally) breaks loose when a man (now famously known as Leatherface) proceeds to murder them all with the help of a chainsaw.

Watch out for a family dinner the likes of which any of you (we’re hoping!) have never seen, and a heroine who needs to escape from it if she is to survive. (Somehow, Sunday dinner at grandma’s doesn’t seem quite as bad!)
