The Penguin King 3D

The Penguin King 3D

Narrated By: David Attenborough

Rating: 4/5

There have been a whole host of animal documentaries that have graced the screen in recent years and The Penguin King 3D is the latest.

There is something utterly fascinating about these creatures and this is a documentary that will keep you engaged from start to finish.

South Georgia - alone in a vast ocean. 900 miles from Antarctica, and a mere 100 miles long. A wild rugged landscape with mountain ranges, vast glaciers, windblown plains half buried beneath snow and ice.

Three years ago, the Penguin King left home. Now he is returning to the place where he was born and raised: Penguin City.

One of the most densely-packed, sought-after pieces of real estate in the entire southern hemisphere and somehow he must establish his own place in it as well as find a mate.

The Penguin King is a funny moving and charming story about one penguin and his quest to find a place within his society.

This is almost like a coming of age movie as he goes from adolescence to having the responsibility of being a parent.

But there are problems and tragedy along the way and you can't help but get caught up in this emotionally powerful drama.

The rousing score is simply beautiful as it adds to the drama or the sadness of specific moments in the movie and really helps to bring it alive.

For lovers of animal documentaries this movie probably doesn't offer anything new and it certainly isn't as epic as March of the Penguins but it is an interesting and beautiful film.

The movie gets right into the life in this penguin colony and it gives viewers a peak into a very unique way of life.

David Attenborough's narration is, as always, engaging and interesting and just adds that little bit of something extra to the film.

The Penguin King 3D is an emotional rollercoaster of a movie that takes you on the incredible journey of life.
