Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are is set up for release this Friday and fans of the book and cinema are in for a treat.

The film is an adaptation of the children’s book of the same name, written by American Author Maurice Sendak first published in 1963.

The fans have been waited along time to see the book be brought to life on the big screen, as the film has been in process of adaptation since the early 90s.

Author Sendak wanted to take creative control and find a director who he thought could take bring the book to life.

His prayers were answered when they specially hand picked music Director Spike Jonze to take on the enormous, and highly pressured project.

The film is based around a young boy Max Records who is like any other boy and wants to have fun all the time, in order to do this he throws tantrums to get what he wants.

After misbehaving and getting told off by his mother and sent to bed without any supper, max runs away in his imagination.

In his imagination Max runs into the woods in his wolf costume and discovers a whole new world finding six large dangerous monsters ruling the land.

Instead of eating Max like they normally would, Max persuades him that he is a king and has special powers. The monsters then befriend him and make him king of their world.

The six monsters in the film were brought to life by creating padded suits for the actors, and then later adding on their faces through animated by CGI.

Filming of the film start back in 2005, making sure that the book converted well onto the big screen.

At one point the studio weren’t sure if Director Jonze had made a family friendly enough, and rumours where rife that re shooting had to begin.

But the Jonze convinced the studio to given him more time to make the  $75 million project family and studio friendly. With a couple of scenes re shot and scenes tweaked the studio where happy.
.
The movie doesn’t necessarily stick to the book, as in the book we never get to see Max’s family, but the film shows Max’s family and all the issues surrounding it, which gives the movie a more personal feel.

For all Where the Wild Things Are fans, this film is a must see, and you will either love or hate the movie adaptation.

The one thing that fans cannot challenged is everyone involved in the movie, Warner Brothers, the author, directors and produces have spent a lot of money and time into making the right version, for the fans.
