Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen

This Is The End hits the big screen today and it marks the directorial debut of Seth Rogen as he teams up with Evan Goldberg.

And Rogen is not the only actor who is making the leap into the director's chair in 2013 - we take a look at who is braving that move.

- Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen has made his name in front of the camera with the likes of Pineapple Express and Knocked Up in recent years but he has always had an interest behind the camera.

From the very start he has been writing projects having penned Superbad, The Green Hornet and The Watch.

It really was a matter of time before he made the leap into the director's chair... and this week he has.

Rogen has been writing with Evan Goldberg for years and together they have penned This Is The End.

The movie will mark the directorial debut for both men as they bring together an impressive cast that includes James Franco, Jonah Hill and Emma Watson.

I think we will be seeing more of Rogen in the director's chair over the coming years.

This Is The End is out now.

- Dustin Hoffman

Dustin Hoffman is one of the biggest screen icons of his generation who has enjoyed a career that has spanned over fifty years.

So it does come as a surprise to hear that he only made his directorial debut at the beginning of the year with Quartet.

Quartet remains one of the best and most charming movies of the year so far as Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Billy Connolly and Pauline Collins play retired opera singers living in a home for retired musicians.

Hoffman delivered a wonderful movie that was moving, charming as well as hilariously funny; he also got the best out of his wonderful cast.

Whether we will see Hoffman in the director's chair again is uncertain as he doesn't have any projects in the pipeline.

- Joseph Gordon Levitt

One of the most talked about movies at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of the years was Don Jon as Joseph Gordon Levitt made his directorial debut.

Not only is Levitt in the director's chair in the film but he also penned the screenplay and takes on the leading role.

Levitt has always been one of the most exciting Hollywood talents and he is really going to show us what he is made of with this project.

He may be a first time filmmaker but that has not stopped a wealth of talent flocking to the project as Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore and Tony Danza are all on board.

Levitt has been whipping up a storm in front of the camera in recent years and now it looks like he is going to be doing the same from the director's chair.

Don Jon is released 15th November.

- Ryan Gosling

Filming is currently underway on How To Catch A Monster, which sees Ryan Gosling take up the director's chair for the first time.

Gosling has delivered some fantastic performances in recent years but you always felt that he was an actor that was destined for the director's chair.

How to Catch a Monster will see Gosling stick just to behind the camera and so we will not be seeing him in the film.

He has also penned the screenplay for the film and his script has attracted Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and Matt Smith to the cast list.

We will not be seeing this movie hit the big screen until 2014.

Other actors who are set to make the leap into the director's chair this year are Scarlett Johansson as she will adapt Truman Capote's first novel Summer Crossing.

Russell Crowe is also going to make his debut with World War I drama The Water Diviner.
