2020 has not been the best year as we all know, for a multitude of reasons. One thing that has kept many going is movies and TV, despite the lack of new content due to the unfortunate Coronavirus pandemic.
Many films set to be released in 2020 have been pushed back to 2021, and there also films with original 2021 release dates to look forward to as well – here are five films you can expect to see next year!
Black Widow
As we all know, this movie has been pushed back a couple times in 2020, but is now set to release in May 2021.
The film will of course follow Natasha Romanoff (Scarlet Johansson) through her very secretive life before joining The Avengers.
Fans are extremely excited for this movie, as they should be, as the Black Widow is one of the most formidable fighters and thinkers Marvel has to offer.
When the government attempt to kill her, Romanoff shows off her skills as a combatant and we are sure to see some exceptional shots and cinematography once again from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
With the cast including Florence Pugh as Romanoff’s ‘sister’, Yelena Belova, and David Harbour as the Red Guardian, this film is set to be absolutely phenomenal – but we could've guess that.
The King’s Man
Another comic book movie set to release next year is The King’s Man on March 12th 2021.
This flick is a prequel to its predecessors, Kingsman: The Secret Service, and Kingsman: The Golden Circle – both brilliant films.
The film follows some of the first members of the Kingsman secret service as they try to stop a plot that will lead to the death of millions of people during World War One.
If the other two films in this franchise are anything to go by, then audiences are in for a treat with this one.
Witnessing the origin of the organisation that goes on to employ the wonderfully different Eggsy (Taron Egerton), and shows the magnificence of the tech guru that is Merlin (Mark Strong), this film will be one to watch if you enjoyed the other two films (which we’re sure you did).
Free Guy
Starring Ryan Reynolds in the titular role of Guy, Free Guy (set to release in May 2021, in the UK) promises to be goofy, witty and just an all-around good time – something we all definitely need!
We follow Guy, a bank teller who ends up realising that he is simply a non-playable character (NPC), or background character, in an online video game that will soon go offline.
As Reynolds is not only a brilliant actor, he is an actor suited to outlandish roles, such as this one. So you can bet that while we keep an eye on his character, Guy, in an attempt to save the world he lives in, that viewers will be in for a laugh or two.
This film will be a must-see for any Reynolds fan, and anyone who loves gaming and genuine comedy – so, pretty much everyone, right?
Godzilla Vs. Kong
The age-old question will finally be answered, as in May 2021, we will see Godzilla take on King Kong.
Both monsters have done well separately, with Godzilla (2014) (a remake of course) and its sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) making a huge impact on the big screen – and Kong: Skull Island (2017) making its own mark too.
Fans everywhere wanted to see the two crossover, and what’s better than watching two ginormous monsters fight to the death? And, when we witnessed Kong back in 2017, rumour has it he was only a child then, so may have grown sicnce we last saw him...
The plot will focus around humanity’s choice to end the lives of the monsters, despite many believing that the beasts, Godzilla at least, may actually be trying to help the human race by defending them from other colossal creatures.
We can already see that the film has a brilliant roster of actors, including Millie Bobby Brown, Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson.
Without even watching the trailer that this film looks sensational and is one to watch the very day of release!
No Time To Die
James Bond (Daniel Craig) is back as the most suave agent MI6 has to offer, and will be returning in April 2021.
Bond, or 007, always gets the job done as we all know – even if he must go off the radar or over his boss’ head to do so.
The Bond villain is also a staple for these films, with each one being exceptional and unforgettable. This time, the outstanding Rami Malek takes on the role of the antihero, Safin.
Many are excited to see Malek’s take on this character as his career has taken off in the last few years.
Bond is recruited to rescue a scientist who has been kidnapped, but he finds himself on a different path as he crosses paths with a mysterious villain who is armed with new and extremely dangerous technology.
We see the return of Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux) as Bond’s girlfriend once again following the previous film, Spectre. It seems Swann has a secret even Bond doesn’t know of – giving Bond both a bad-guy and a secretive partner to contend with.
All of these films will be set to release in 2021, most likely in theatres. This may change of course, as may the state of the world due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
