Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill is an actor well and truly on the rise as he takes on the biggest role of his career this week.

Of course I am talking about Man of Steel, a film that sees Superman return to the big screen for the first time in seven years.

Cavill follows in the footsteps of George Reeves, Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh as he takes on the role of Clark Kent; this is a role that is sure to send his star rocketing.

The British actor kicked off his acting career back at the beginning of the noughties when he appeared in movies The Count of Monte Cristo, Goodbye Mr Chips and I Capture the Castle, as well as TV series The Inspector Lynley Mysteries and Midsomer Murders.

While small parts in movies were a regular thing - appearing in the likes of Tristan & Isolde and Stardust - it was on the small screen where he got his big break.

He took on the role of Charles Brandon in The Tudors, a series which followed the reign of Henry VIII.

Cavill stayed with the series for the full four seasons as he starred alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Natalie Dormer, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Jeremy Northam.

The Tudors proved to be the breakthrough role for the actor and he has picked up bigger movie roles in recent years.

Immortals and The Cold Light of Day have seen him land leading characters... but now he it about to take his career to the next level.

Cavill was considered for the role of Superman when casting for Superman Returns got underway; however he lost out to Brandon Routh when Bryan Singer took over the film.

However he was not to be disappointed a second time as director Zack Snyder brought the British actor on board for Man of Steel.

Man of Steel will see the popular franchise rebooted as David S. Goyer has penned the screenplay for the film.

Cavill is joined on the cast list by Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane and Man of Steel is one of the most anticipated films of the year.

The film may not have been released yet but a sequel is already in the pipeline and the chatter about a Justice League movie is getting louder and louder. So it seems that we could be seeing Cavill in this role for quite some time.

Going forward the actor has been linked to a role in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., an adaptation of the popular TV series.

Henry Cavill is one of the British actors that has been slowly making a name for himself for sometime - now it looks like he is on the verge of becoming a major Hollywood star.

Man of Steel is released 14th June.
