Jaws

Jaws

It's hard to argue against that fact that Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest filmmakers ever!

During a stunning career he has produced a whole host of iconic movies, character and moment but today was look at seventies movie Jaws.

Released back in 1975 the movie really did kick off the blockbuster genre that we all love.

What is so great about this movie that relies on just one simple thing... fear!

Yes we have all jumped out of our seat watching Jaws over the years - I remember hiding behind a cushion as a kid.

Jaws is a fast paced movie that never really stops for a breather and it's this pacing and feeling of a lack of time that makes it a really effective thrillers.

And that tense feeling that is present through the whole film remains no matter how many times you have seen it.

The central performances are superb and this is the role that Roy Scheider will always be remembered.

He is joined by Robert Shaw, Richard Drefuss and Lorraine Gary as all of their fears are brought to the surface with the arrival of this Great White.

This is quite simply one of the best movies ever made and it changed the way that movies were made for ever.

Spielberg showed that you could make films on a massive scale and use special effect that had a huge impact.

The blockbuster was born and it was kicked off in fine style as he showed just how great movies in this genre could be.

Jaws remains a classic of cinema and it really is one of the best thrillers ever made.
