Thor: The Dark World

Thor: The Dark World

It seems that Marvel can do no wrong at the box office at the moment as Iron Man 3 has stormed to international #1.

The movie has been on release for almost a week and it has already taken an eye-watering $242 million at the global box office - and it hasn't even been released in the States yet.

This success comes just twelve months after Avengers Assemble stormed to an impressive $1.5 billion; making it the third biggest grossing movie of all time.

It seems that movie fans are loving everything that Marvel is releasing right now - and that is great news for Marvel as Iron Man 3 kicked off what they are calling 'Phase 2'.

Over the next couple of years we will be seeing a series of movies... and we take a look at what is on the horizon.

Thor: The Dark World - 30th October

Thor got a first stand alone film back in 2011 and this autumn Thor: The Dark World will be hitting the big screen.

We were treated to the first trailer for the film last week and it looks like it is going to be one hell of a ride as Alan Taylor takes over the director's chair.

Chris Hemsworth is back in the title role while Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman and Idris Elba are just some of the stars that will also be returning.

But there are some new faces to watch out for as Christopher Eccleston is on villain duty as he is set to play Malekith while Zachary Levi has taken over the role of Fandral.

In the aftermath of Avengers Assemble, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness.

Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - released 4th April 2014

Filming on Captain America: The Winter Soldier is underway as we speak as Chris Evans returns to the role of Steve Rodgers.

We were introduced to Captain America back in 2011 but this time around he is doing battle in the twenty first century.

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are in the director's chair this time around as they take over from Joe Johnston.

Evans is not the only familiar face on the cast list as Scarlett Johansson is back as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising the role of Nick Fury.

But there are some super exciting additions as Anthony Mackie will play Falcon, Robert Redford is set to play Agent Alexander Pierce and Frank Grillo is about as Brock Rumlow.

As Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Guardians of the Galaxy - released August 2014

We are going to be introduced to a whole host of new characters next summer as Guardians of the Galaxy is set to hit the big screen.

The Marvel world is going to be extended one step further as James Gunn is in the director's chair to bring the comic creations to life.

Chris McCoy and Nicole Perlman have adapted the comic into a screenplay but not too much is known about the movie as filming is yet to get underway - cameras are set to start rolling next month.

Chris Pratt will star as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord while Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana and Lee Pace are all also on board.

Avengers 2 - released 1st May 2015

But if there is one Marvel project that everyone is talking about then it is Avengers 2.

There is excitement growing around this movie day by day as the rumours about the story and who we are going to see in it continue to come and go.

All we know for certain is that Joss Whedon will be back in the director's chair for the film and he is currently working on the screenplay for the film.

Everything else surrounding the film is just rumour and hearsay - we don't even know which of the original members will be suiting up once again.

Anthony Mackie and Don Cheadle have both announced their interest at bringing their characters of Falcon and War Machine to the party.

But one rumour that keeps on circulating is that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be new characters - however this is something that Kevin Feige would not confirm or deny.

Filming on Avengers 2 is set to get underway at the beginning of next year.
