Ang Lee says that he was 'seduced' by the book Life of Pi.

The Oscar winning filmmaker is back in the director's chair this December to adapt the novel and it is his most ambitious project to date.

The movie is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed novel by Yann Martel and is set to be a visual treat when it hits the big screen this Christmas.

And Lee admits that it was this source material that really made him want to tackle the film project.

Speaking to Vulture the director said: "I was just possessed! The book is inspiring, fascinating and mind-boggling, and I read it when it first came out and talked about it with my wife and my sons.

"But when I was first approached to direct it, it seemed like a crazy idea - and the book seduced me into it, because it was a puzzle to crack. It's an intellectual book, and you have to make it emotional and visual."

Life of Pi is the first directorial outing for Li since Taking Woodstock and it is a movie that is completely different to the rest of his movies.

Irrfan Khan and Adil Hussain are just some of the names on the cast list while Suraj Sharma is set to make his big screen debut as Pi.

Life of Pi is released 20th December.
