Anne Hathaway has admitted that the early days of working on The Dark Knight Rises was a little overwhelming but she was thrilled to be working with Christian Bale.

The Oscar nominated actress steps into the Batman franchise for the first time this summer as she takes on the role of Catwoman in the film.

And she revealed that the great working relationship that exists between Bale and director Christopher Nolan played a big part in helping her relax onto the set.

Speaking to SFX Magazine the actress said: "Here I am working with Christian Bale, and Chris Nolan is directing me and Wally Pfister is lighting me and I'm in a catsuit. It was somewhat overwhelming."

"I felt so lucky that most of my scenes were with Christian, because he's one of the world's greatest actors and he and Chris do have a shorthand.

"They have such an ease working together that it helped me relax, especially in the early days."

But Hathaway is not the only new face on The Dark Knight Rises cast list as Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon Levitt are all new additions.

And Hathaway has moved from one high profile project to another as she is currently filming Tom Hooper's adaptation of Les Miserables where she is set to play Fantine.

The Dark Knight Rises is released 20th July.
