Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum has admitted that he was worried about taking on 21 Jump Street as he had never done a comedy role before.

Tatum teams up with Oscar nominee Jonah Hill for a big screen version of the hit eighties TV show, in which they play undercover cops.

And Tatum reveals that Hill and the team working on the movie really helped him to navigate his first comedy film.

Speaking to The Press Association the actor said: "I got a phone call from Jonah, and I wasn't sure why he was calling me!

"I was just sort of like, 'Alright man. If you promise me that I'll be funny, then I'll sign on'.

"And he did, he really helped me, and held my hand all the way through it. They created a great stage for you to be safe to fail, and not feel bad if you don't know your way into a joke."

Tatum will go from comedy to action with his next movie as he is returning to the G.I. Joe franchise.

But this time around he is joined on the cast list by Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis.

21 Jump Street is out now.
