Chris Columbus

Chris Columbus gave up his acting dreams after watching his onscreen skills in action while making Home Alone.

The beloved director of films like Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Stepmom and Mrs. Doubtfire and his assistant decided to play newscasters in the first Home Alone film - and he admits he was awful.

He tells WENN, "I wanted to act but I was a horrific actor. In Home Alone we had a newscast and my assistant director and I decided to be the newscasters.

"I saw the footage and I would've fired me if I had the opportunity. I was horrible.

"I was pulling big faces and I just looked miserable. I have no talent as an actor, so I stay as far away from it as possible."

Despite giving up on his acting dream the filmmaker is enjoying success behind the camera at the moment with his latest movie Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

Columbus is back in the director's chair for The Last Campaign and Ripley's Believe It or Not!

He also has a string of producing projects in the pipeline including Welcome to Hoxford and The Help.
