Christopher Nolan likes that he has been able to bring his Batman story to a close.

The Dark Knight Rises is the third and final instalment of the franchise for both filmmaker and actor Christian Bale - and Nolan is glad that he has been able to bring the story to an end.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times the filmmaker said: "Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story.

"And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story... unlike the comics, these things don't go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful."

It has been four years since The Dark Knight set a new bar when it came to the superhero movie and now The Dark Knight Rises looks set to do the same.

Bale is back for one last turn as Bruce Wayne while Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine are also back as Jim Gordon, Lucius Fox and Alfred.

Tom Hardy is set to play Bane while Catwoman also returns to the big screen in the form of Anne Hathaway.

The Dark Knight Rises is released 20th July
