Christopher Nolan says that there is a bit of 'Darth Vader' in Tom Hardy's depiction of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

Hardy is one of the new faces to the Batman franchise as he takes on the role of Bane as Nolan bring this series of films to a close.

And Nolan reveals that Hardy has gone to the very core of this character in a bid to bring his evil to the big screen.

Speaking to Access Hollywood the director said: "[He's] something you've never seen before. It's a little bit of Darth Vader, a little bit of this, little bit of that...

"It's very unique and that's what you get with great actors like Tom Hardy, he's not just going to go through the motions, he's going to try and craft a character that really makes sense for him.

"He has really gone in through the roots of the character and approached the evil."

The Dark Knight Rises comes four years after the Dark Knight and is set eight years after the events of that movie.

The Dark Knight Rises is released 20th July.
