Guillermo Del Toro has revealed that he wants Peter Jackson to direct The Hobbit.

The Pan's Labyrinth filmmaker left the project earlier this year believes that Jackson, who won a Best Director Oscar for The Lord of the Rings, is the 'logical' person to direct and would be a move that he would welcome.

Speaking to MTV Del Toro said: "Me, like any other geek, I really want to see Peter do the movie."

The filmmaker was set to direct the movie with Jackson acting as executive producer but the delay on getting the movie underway was one of the reasons that Del Toro felt that he had to leave.

He admitted that it was a tough decision to leave the project behind: "It's a heartbreak for me that I cannot own that work.

"It is almost like having a partial adoption of children, but you know, it really came to the point where we could not keep postponing [other film and book projects], contractually things went away," he continued.

"A lot of the stuff started to conflict in very bad ways."

Jackson has been linked with The Hobbit ever since Del Toro's departure but an announcement is yet to be made as to who will direct the movie.
