District 9

District 9

District 9 has brought The Final Destination's week box office reign to an end as it stormed to the number one spot this weekend.

The Peter Jackson produced movie has been a critical hit and enjoyed box office success in America earlier this summer.

Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came.

Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa's District 9 as the world's nations argued over what to do with them.

The Multi-National United (MNU)keep a watchful eye on the slum where the aliens now live and the peace between the humans and aliens is beginning to disintegrate.

The film is from first time feature filmmaker Neill Blomkamp and he has already talked about a possible sequel.

The Final Destination dropped just one place to number two while 500 Days of Summer was the second new entry inside the top three at three.

Inglourious Basterds dropped two places from two to four while a drop of two places saw Funny People round off the top five.

There were no other new entries inside the top ten and this week's biggest fallers were The Time Traveller's Wife and harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, both falling three places.
