Ed Westwick

Ed Westwick dreams of replacing Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

The Gossip Girl star, 21, has amassed a huge female following through his role in the hit U.S. TV drama, but he admits he's desperate to test his action movie credentials alongside one of Bond's sexy femme fatales.

He confides to America's Interview magazine about his ideal role: "Being from England, and being a lad, I have to say James Bond. It would be wrong of me to say anything else."

Craig took over from Pierce Brosnan to take on the Bond role in box office hits Casino Royale in 2006 and last year's (08) Quantum of Solace.

And it doesn't look like the team behind the Bond franchise will want to let Craig go anytime soon with two mammoth movies under their belts.

Craig made his debut in 2006, surrounded by controversy over his casting, however Casino Royale was a box office smash going on to gross over $594 million at the global box office.

At the end of last year he returned with Quantum of Solace which enjoyed a similar box office success grossing over $575 million.

These movies saw the Bond franchise over take Harry Potter and become the most financially successful string of movies of all time. Bond 23 is penciled in for a 2011 release.
