Gary Oldman

Gary Oldman

Gary Oldman may be set to reprise the role of George Smiley.

The actor enjoyed critical and commercial success earlier this year when John le Carre's novel Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy was adapted for the big screen.

And now it seems that Smiley's People may also get the big screen treatment.

Speaking to ComingSoon the actor said: "I think they're whispering now that they might do Smiley's People, not so much as a sequel, because there's a book in the middle actually, but we've set up the world and we'll revisit.

Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy topped the UK box office and there were early calls for Oldman to receive an Oscar nomination for his central performance.

But before he returns to the character of Smiley the actor has a whole host of projects in the pipeline including Guns, Girls and Gambling and Wettest County.

But the Oldman project that everyone is excited about for next year is The Dark Knight Rises, which sees the actor reprise the role of Jim Gordon.

It will be the third Batman movie for the actor and it promises to be the biggest movie of 2012.
