Geoffrey Rush has revealed that he doesn’t agree with plans to re-edit The King’s Speech.

The movie picked up twelve Academy Award nominations last week, including Best Picture, but Harvey Weinstein, who is distributing the movie, believes that the swearing should be cut out.

Weinstein believes that cutting out the audience will make the movie appeal to a wider audience - but Rush doesn’t agree.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter: "I just think it's a shame considering that it's all in the context of therapeutic play.

"It's almost like a tongue-twister. It's gobbledygook. But it's not aggressive, it's not offensive. It's not harmful… If you cut it, then you're going to cut one of the key thrills of the film."

Rush picked up a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role as speech therapist Lionel Logue - with Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter also picking up acting nods.

Rush with be back on the big screen later this year as he reprises the role of Captain Barbosa in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The King’s Speech is out now.
