Guillermo Del Toro has revealed that it is his 'lifelong dream' to remake Frankenstein.

Speaking to Radio 5 Live's Simon Mayo the filmmaker revealed his love for the novel: "Frankenstein is my lifelong dream, one of the primal books in my life, one of the primal monsters in my own mythology.

"I'm hoping I get to do that [movie] very, very much."

Despite working on The Hobbit adaptation, which is yet to begin shooting Del Toro has admitted the work on a Frankenstein movie has already begun.

We're doing make-up tests for the monster. In a few weeks we're going to shoot a test for the monster."

"I'm not in a hurry. I want to test it, develop it perfectly. If I shoot it five years from now, six years from now, it's fine by me. You have one shot in your lifetime at these things and I don't want to do it the wrong way."

He went on to reveal that it will be Doug Jones, who has starred in his other movies Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth, that will take on the role of Victor Frankenstein's creation.

But for now Del Toro has The Hobbit to work on and he is currently writing a script with The Lord of the Rings filmmaker Peter Jackson, who is serving as an executive producer on the movie.

The film will be split into two parts released in 2011 and 2012.
