Guillermo del Toro is still hopeful that The Mountains of Madness will one day go ahead.

The HP Lovecraft adaptation has struggled to get a get the necessary budget and has not been give the go ahead.

Speaking to Movieline the filmmaker said: "I think it's either going to happen one day in the right way, or I really think the worst thing that can happen to a movie like that is for it to get filmed the wrong way.

"There are two ways of preserving the greatness of a movie: Making it, or not making it. But what you cannot do is make it the wrong way because you needed to make it, that's silly."

Del Toto has not helmed a movie since Hellboy II: The Golden Army back in 2008 but has produced a series of projects recently.

He has produced Kung Fu Panda 2. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and Julia's Eye in the last twelve months.

Puss In Boots and Rise of the Guardians are two other projects that he is involved with.
